Consequences of Confucism
- Benefitted people in power, really no one else
- Examination System
- Key to acquiring a government position, career were more based on talent not social class or how you viewed.
- Possible for everyone to have chance at getting jobs and not just those who were born well off receiving jobs. people were actually interviewed of some sort.
- This made it possible for the civilizations to actually prosper with everyone working at what they are good at.
Women did not benefit from Confucism
- They were looked at as distractions
- Footbinding was common, this made it so they count leave the house it was so uncomfortable for them to walk.
- The poor people couldn't have the chance to foot bind, it was looked at as a sign of extreme beauty and they couldn't waste a person like, They needed them for work.
Chinas concept of empire was different then everywhere else in the world
- This made it so people wanted to become Chinese because of the way the ran things, as in they way they ran their government.
- Aslo China didn't have to conquer other groups/civilizations because they just waned to join them.
- this made China grow and spread their culture.
- what it meant to be Chinese evolved
- They built a wall to keep Mongolians out, The Great Wall of China
- their concept of empire was to allow their boarders to grow.
- they wanted different bloodlines to mix
- China became strong agricultural base what led to this.
- Canal network set up by Xinchen
- New rice that was drought resistant also grew 2 times as fast. it was low quality but was used as an emergency food so they always had something to eat.
